This card may have fallen out of Barack Obama's pocket today.

It sure explains a lot with what's been going on lately(FISA!) and Obama's strange inability to see who his friends are and who his friends aren't.

Iraq: It Was The Oil All Along

I personally don't think dubya's Iraqi meatgrinder was only about the oil. I think an equally big part of it was to funnel our tax money into corporate coffers, which has worked amazingly well. Another part of it was/is that dubya's a power mad sociopath. The Republicans were marching in lockstep, the Democrats were afraid to do anything, and the US "News" media were cheerleaders. Here's Bill Moyers:

Things You Won't Believe | Senators Craig/Vitter Protect Marriage

Just another reason why The Onion will NEVER beat real life craziness.
I'd heard a snippet about this little news item on cable news a few days ago and said, "WTF!". Naturally I thought it HAD to have been a joke of some kind.
It's no joke, Senator Larry "wide stance" Craig(R, Closet) and Senator David "diapers" Vitter(R,ILUVProstitutes) have co-sponsored a "marriage protection act(pause a moment to roar with laughter)". Actually it really is a joke:

Two United States Senators implicated in extramarital sexual activity have named themselves as co-sponsors of S. J. RES. 43, dubbed the Marriage Protection Amendment. If ratified, the bill would amend the United States Constitution to state that marriage "shall consist only of the union of a man and a woman." Sen. Larry Craig (R-ID), who was arrested June 11, 2007 on charges of lewd conduct in a Minneapolis airport terminal, is co-sponsoring the amendment along with Sen. David Vitter (R-LA).
In July of 2007, Vitter was identified as a client of a prostitution firm owned by the late Deborah Jeane Palfrey, commonly known as The DC Madam.

Thankfully Jesus' General already has appropriate ads for these two wild and crazy guys.

Wesley Clark Attacks

Here's General Wesley Clark's comments concerning crazy John McCain's Presidential qualifications yesterday on Face The Nation. You may have heard media hos and wingnuts ranting about it. General Clark is right, being 494 out of 499 in your graduating class, crashing numerous aircraft, and being shot and tortured shouldn't automatically qualify one for President. The General is correct, John Kerry was "swiftboated" in 2004. John McCain was "swiftboated"(by Bush) in 2000. Clark's comments are not swiftboating, they're true.

To The Old And To People Leaving | "Tears Idle Tears"

Speaking of people in the hospital. Here's to my cousin in the hospital dying of cancer, and to my mom and everyone we love who grows old and is taken. One of my favorite poems of all time. Alfred Lord Tennyson's talks about mortality with, "Tears Idle Tears":

Tears, Idle Tears

Tears, idle tears, I know not what they mean,
Tears from the depth of some divine despair
Rise in the heart, and gather to the eyes,
In looking on the happy Autumn-fields,
And thinking of the days that are no more.

Fresh as the first beam glittering on a sail,
That brings our friends up from the underworld,
Sad as the last which reddens over one
That sinks with all we love below the verge;
So sad, so fresh, the days that are no more.

Ah, sad and strange as in dark summer dawns
The earliest pipe of half-awakened birds
To dying ears, when unto dying eyes
The casement slowly grows a glimmering square;
So sad, so strange, the days that are no more.

Dear as remembered kisses after death,
And sweet as those by hopeless fancy feigned
On lips that are for others; deep as love,
Deep as first love, and wild with all regret;
O Death in Life, the days that are no more.

On Line | Going To The Country | Toshiba Laptop

"Baby don't you want to go?"

I'm online for just a few minutes. It's been a hectic few days with work, family in the hospital, work that never ceases, Ellen's work on her online classes, whine and whine. Well here I am now but not for long, Brittany and I are leaving for the country(mountains of S.E. KY) in an hour or so. I'm dropping her off at an aunt's house so I might get to do a lot of stream fishing. The South Fork KY is a great wading river. Hopefully I'll get back to my online rec room here tomorrow night. No computer and NO ACCESS where I'm going.:-)
On the other hand with our wonderful "stimulus" check I went out and finally bought a new laptop. It's mostly for Ellen's school work(or so she's claimed it) but at least when we get it hooked to the Internets also then when she's online for hours at school I can get online with the desktop(Sigh..) and maybe, who knows, maybe even BLOG! I bought a new Yoshiba Satellite with 160g HD and 15.4" screen. It only has 1 g RAM but I'll add another g myself. That's it right now. I'm going to get my internet news fix before I have to leave so I'll talk at you Droppers Ins later. Oh, and here's the way I feel about Obama right now:

Courtesy of Mark Adams and here. I'm pretty disappointed in Barack right now but what can you do? Later

R.I.P. George Carlin

I remember watching George Carlin on the Tonight Show, so long ago that Johny Carson was still hosting. I remember the "Hippy Dippy Weatherman" routine and the "seven things you can't say on tv". I remember his hosting of the very FIRST Saturday Night Live waaay back in the mid-seventies. My condolences to the Carlin family. Damn I'm gonna miss this guy. I hope he's young again somewhere and giving the bosses "hell". What kind of universe is it that would only give GEORGE CARLIN one shot at it? It's a far emptier and less funny place here now he's gone from it. Bye George.

The seven things you can't say on tv(No it's NOT worksafe):

Thanks to Barry Crimmins where I stole them here's a few more reasons why George Carlin was one of the funniest Mofos to take the stage EVER. Not only that but while you were laughing he was making you think about things in a completely different perspective.
This one's about the "owners":

This one is Religion:

"I'm completely in favor of the separation of Church and State. My idea is that these two institutions screw us up enough on their own, so both of them together is certain death."
-George Carlin

Go read the quotes they're laugh out loud.

Fuel Cell "Skateboard" And A New Car Concept

This is the chassis for a fuel cell technology car and it's called what it resembles, "skateboard". All the "running gear" is embedded in the chassis.
A lot of people say that the fuel cell technology is far to dependent on fossil fuels. Personally I think electric/hybrid technology is the way to go right now. Some extremely interesting ideas in this though.

Steny Hoyer Sucks! Congressional Dems Once Again Surrender To Bush

What is it with these surrender Dems in Congress(Steny Hoyer, etal.)? Is it Lobbyist money? Is it secret files on them from Bushco spying? Is it all of that and more? They pretty much gave up another HUGE chunk of America's freedom to mister 25% this week with the new FISA disaster. The House takes it up today. I won't even try to cover this disaster except to link you to Glenn Greenwald who's followed it closely this whole time and is far better at analyzing it than I. Here's Glenn:

"..I've now just read a copy of the final "compromise" bill. It's even worse than expected. When you read it, it's actually hard to believe that the Congress is about to make this into our law. Then again, this is the same Congress that abolished habeas corpus with the Military Commissions Act, and legalized George Bush's warrantless eavesdropping program with the "Protect America Act," so it shouldn't be hard to believe at all. Seeing the words in print, though, adds a new dimension to appreciating just how corrupt and repugnant this is..."

"...I'd like to underscore the fact that in 2006, when the Congress was controlled by Bill Frist and Denny Hastert, the administration tried to get a bill passed legalizing warrantless eavesdropping and telecom amnesty, but was unable. They had to wait until the Congress was controlled by Steny Hoyer, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid to accomplish that.."
Continue.

Here's the ActBlue page to donate money to hold these Dem traitors accountable and lead to their defeat in coming elections. ActBlue has already raised nearly $250,000 and they're trying to make it $350,000. All the money going to fund accountability for congressmembers supporting retroactive immunity and warrantless wiretaps. I gave a few bucks and I'm a poor man.

By the way could someone put out an amber alert for Barack "Mr. Hope" Obama on this? He seems to be missing completely.

UK Has Begun Logging In Robinson Forest

The University Of Kentucky wouldn't take no, or PLEASE NO, or protests to stop their logging of 800 acres near streams in the 15,000 pristine acres of Robinson Forest.

Photo: Charles Bertram, Lex. Her-Ldr.

They started logging this past week with heavy equipment and the usual logged earth churning. They could have went low impact and used old fashioned methods but apparently the whole idea is "heavy impact". According to UK it's not about the money for the lumber. It's about studying the impact on the streams.
Why you'd need 800 ACRES to study the impact I've not been clued in on. Why not 100 acres or 200? Looks like that's been left to the money people and the geniuses in the UK forestry "management" area.

Here's the Kentucky Heartwood web site to oppose the logging of Robinson forest.

More Cindy McCain Plagarized Recipes?

Funny:
Looks like Cindy McCain(or the hired help) is giving out more McCain family "plagarized" recipes. The latest story is Family Circle magazine's recipes from the candidate's spouses. Oops...looks like Cindy's was lifted from Nestles. Here's the hilarious details from Firedoglake:

The July 2008 issue of Family Circle featured an article in which each (it went to press before Hillary conceded) of the presidential candidates' significant others submitted a cookie recipe. A tipster caught a whiff of something besides sugar after reviewing Cindy McCain's Oatmeal-Butterscotch cookies, and quickly found the original recipe at Hersheys.com (see image below). While McCain, or that same low-level staffer, managed to take the time to switch a few minor details in her version of the recipe this time around, there is no doubt that the recipes are the same...

Is this a sign of some deep seated problem, like lifting drugs? Can she not help herself? Does the McCain family actually have ANY recipes of their own? Questions, questions...

And this:
Cindy McCain's special recipe for filet mignon.

1. Turn in direction of Consuela.
2. Say "I would like filet mignon".
3. Emphasized "NOW!"
4. Wait 10 minutes.

Corporate News "Russertathon" Continues

I tuned into NBC for the "Meet the press" time slot this morning just to see what kind of lovefest they'd put up for Big Tim Russert. As expected the beatification continued unabated. I told my wife that it's as if a sitting President or adored world leader had died.
The talking heads are stroking themselves through their continuous, adoring Russertathon. Jeebus I'd hate to be one of these people, they make millions but if they have an original thought in their head you'll never see it. The midwest drowning, Iraq still bleeding, US soldiers dying in Afghanistan, oil workers now allowed to harass, kill and torture polar bears. An endless horror list. But damnit that affable fellow, Big Tim Russert, Dick Cheney's favorite interviewer died. The brain dead leading the brain dead goes on. Barry Crimmons has the best take on this latest corporate news navel gazing I've seen:

"..The media wags that survive Russert are incapable of seeing the absurdity of their overkill of his death.."

"..The Russertathon establishes that talking heads matter more than many outstanding people, too. (At least as far as other talking heads are concerned.) In 500 years, who do you think will be considered more significant for his contribution as a chronicler of this age we live in? Tim Russert or Kurt Vonnegut? If Vonnegut got five minutes coverage on MSNBC when he died, I missed four minutes and forty-five seconds of it. Russert, on the other hand, has already had 30 times more airtime devoted to his life and death than all of the
129 journalists who have been killed in Iraq combined. It's exactly the kind of reporting we've come to expect during the era of a nice guy named Tim Russert.."
Link.

Related: Here's Bill Moyers interviewing Russert in April 2007 excerpted from the Moyers "Buying the War" broadcast:

This is all I'll ever have to say about Tim Russert. I never watched his show for the same reason I never watch any of these corporate cable news talks. They are "he said, she said, journamalism", skimming the surface of real information and the truth. R.I.P. Tim Russert, someone else will take your seat. Someone else probably even worse if I know the corporate info-tainment playbook.

Question: Who Do You Want Managing Our Economy?

First:

The bulk of the McCains’ obligations stemmed from a pair of American Express credit cards that are held in Cindy McCain’s name. According to the disclosure reports, which present information on debts in a range rather than providing a precise figure, Mrs. McCain owed $100,000 to $250,000 on each card.
John Taplin says:

I know what American Express charges for interest on a Platinum Card. A fiscally responsible household should probably sell some of the million of Anheuser-Busch stock they own and stop paying that 17% ARP on $500,000 worth of Amex charges. There are some other stark contrasts between the McCains and the Obamas. The McCains have a net worth around $40 million, almost all of it from Cindy’s holdings. The Obama’s net worth is closer to $4 million, most of it earned from Barack’s two recent books. Instead of going into debt they have managed to put $250,000 in a college savings account for their two daughters.

Ben Chandler Gets An Open Letter

I came across an open letter in the paper version of the Lexington Herald-Leader's city/state this morning. The open letter to my Representative Ben Chandler. From a group calling itself the "Consumer Alliance For Energy Security" which is basically(as you've probably guessed) a conglomerate of corporate gas, oil, and affiliated companies, a Front Company if you will. I scanned their list of members and I can't see one actual consumer group represented.
The agenda for Ben Chandler and all the other politicians these ads will be aimed at by good old CAFES? Why nothing but the opening up of unlimited drilling and exploration for gas and oil in offshore areas. I didn't see it stated but I'm sure that Wilderness and wildlife areas are tucked into their corporate front group agendas somewhere.
I assume Ben Chandler and all our other officeholders keep a handy list of front groups and who those groups are actually representing. As a hint here's a few "Front Group" names and who they ACTUALLY represent:

Consumer Alliance for Energy Security....oil, gas, chemical corporations

Center for Consumer Freedom....Tobacco, restaurant and alcoholic beverage industries

Global Climate Coalition....Oil and coal companies

National Wetlands Coalition....Utilities and major industrial companies, oil and gas

This has been another episode of "know who you're dealing with" presented as a public service to Rep. Ben Chandler and others who should be in the know.

But we've got this guy out there now who is redefining the nature of politics from the ground up...Barack Obama. He's redefining what a politician is, so we'll have to see how things play out. Am I hopeful? Yes, I'm hopeful that things might change. Some things are going to have to.” He offers a parting handshake. “You should always take the best from the past, leave the worst back there and go forward into the future,” he notes as the door closes between us."

Friends In High Places? Indicted Saudi gets $80 million US contract

Life is good:
Saudi wanted by FBI and Justice Department gets $80 million US military contract.

The US military has awarded an $80 million contract to a prominent Saudi financier who has been indicted by the US Justice Department. The contract to supply jet fuel to American bases in Afghanistan was awarded to the Attock Refinery Ltd, a Pakistani-based refinery owned by Gaith Pharaon. Pharaon is wanted in connection with his alleged role at the failed Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI), and the CenTrust savings and loan scandal, which cost US tax payers $1.7 billion.

Note: Pharaon was an investor in President George W. Bush's first(failed) business venture, Arbusto Energy.

The US-Iraqi Security Agreement | "Global Gangsterism "

Bushco says, agree to our security and continued occupation or else:

Global gangsterism, pure and simple.

The US is holding hostage some $50bn (£25bn) of Iraq's money in the Federal Reserve Bank of New York to pressure the Iraqi government into signing an agreement seen by many Iraqis as prolonging the US occupation indefinitely, according to information leaked to The Independent.

Note: The agreement renders the occupation of Iraq permanent, as reported by Patrick Cockburn.

FISA _ Dems Once Again Trying To Surrender On Amnesty

If they're trying to hide something what is it?
From DWT and Digby:

"It's about finding middle ground, and we have middle ground. It's not going to please everyone, but let's get on with it."
--House Intelligence Committee Chairman Silvestre Reyes (above), quoted by CongressDaily, on "a Republican-brokered deal to rewrite the nation's electronic surveillance laws" which Reyes "disclosed late Tuesday that he is ready to accept"

"There just isn't enough money at stake to explain this. Nobody's suing for the money, they are suing for the discovery. Something bad happened here and the Democrats are helping the Republicans cover it up."
--Digby, in "FISA Zombie," a post of the CongressDaily article

McCain - The Speech Disaster

This is fantastic. A bit late but funny. The heads at Faux news, and elsewhere, try to find some silver lining in old John's speech from somewhere near New Orleans(Kenner, LA). Bonus is clips of Grandpa Simpson McCain stumbling, smiling inappropriately and just trying to stay awake through the horrible speech itself. Enjoy:

Obama Takes Lieberman Aside

Hopefully Obama was telling Joe Turncoat that he'd better shape up.

--
Barack Obama (D) and Sen. Joe Lieberman (I) had quite an animated discussion in the Senate chamber this morning:

"Using forceful, but not angry, hand gestures, Obama literally backed up Lieberman against the wall, leaned in very close at times, and appeared to be trying to dominate the conversation, as the two talked over each other in a few instances."

Teddy Bear Navigation System

Will wonders never cease?

Robot teddy bear car navigation system

On June 3, engineers at iXs Research Corporation unveiled a robotic teddy bear designed to work as a talking car navigation system. The prototype robot stands 30 centimeters (1 ft) tall and has 6 joints in its arms and neck, which it uses to make gestures while providing spoken directions.
The robot bear is also equipped with functions to improve auto safety, such as an alcohol detection sensor embedded in its neck. If it smells booze, the robot confronts the driver, saying, “You haven’t been drinking, have you?” Other sensors detect wreckless driving, so if the driver suddenly accelerates or slams on the brakes, the robot says, “Watch out!”
As a bonus feature, the robot bear provides information about nearby landmarks when you stroke its head...

Continue.

This kind of reminds me of this movie teddy bear.

Obama's Our(Pre-emptive?) Candidate And John McCain Speechifies

..So...Busy..Barely time to log in..! Wish I had time to be an actually concentrated blogger..Alas.
Good late morning travelers. Obama's the man! I saw most of his speech last night. I also saw a bit of Hillary's "non-concession" speech this am on The Today Show. At one point she said, "everyone's asking what Hillary wants, what does Hillary want?" You know I don't really care what "Hillary wants" right now. She's been telling us what she wants all through this eternal campaign. What I want, and what a majority of Americans want is to throw out these rabid bums that have been camped out and crapping on my country for the last 7+ years.
What I want is for Hill to make her mind up and do what's best. I don't think Obama will put her as Veep, and it's probably best he doesn't. Both she and Bill are far to much A+ personalities for 2nd spot. We'll see how it plays out. Absolutely historic no matter how it goes now. I hope Obama is ready for the Republican storm of smears and swiftboating and that there's no little peccadillos to come floating up. It's going to be a wild ride.
Oh, and speaking of the Republicans and their geezer candidate, crazy John had a speech last night to. Some say it was the worst speech they've ever heard. Here's some mash-up of John's "green speech" from Jed:

Obama's nominee speech from Minnesota site of the Larry "I am not gay" Craig Republican convention, Part 1:

Part 2, part 3, part 4.

Universal Studios Fire Worse Than Thought

Holy Crap!

A fire at Universal Studios has destroyed a set from "Back to the Future," the King Kong exhibit and a video vault containing more than 40,000 videos and reels.

I did see there were duplicates of the videos elsewhere.

Evening video | Floyd - On The Turning Away

I'd dedicate this to the Hillary Clinton diehards but I'm afraid they'll get mad at me. Our candidate is Barack Obama. Do like I did and make him your candidate. He was my third choice, make him your second. Pink Floyd, "On The Turning Away".

If for nothing else join us for Iraq, and a holding action on the Supreme Court, the polar bears, the whales and the homeless.

"No more turning away, from the weak and the weary".
