My Senator, Jim Bunning | Small Mind and Heart Of Stone

Speaking of creepy old farts:
Here's Republican compassion in a nutshell.
My old and barely aware senator(not Mitch McConnell, he's the money grubbing one) Jim "F*ck the poor" Bunning.

If they were voting for more weapons, wars, tax breaks for heirs, you just know that old Senator Crankstanky here would be all for it.

As a long-suffering constituent I can only say;
What. A. Dick.

Oh and the DemocratsPussies rolled over(what else) and let him do this to suffering, desperate people.

As always Digby explains it so much better than I.

TED TALKS | Bill Gates On A new Future For Energy

Maybe he can lead the way, someone needs to.

Bill Gates unveils his vision for the world's energy future, describing the need for "miracles" to avoid planetary catastrophe and explaining why he's backing a dramatically different type of nuclear reactor. The necessary goal? Zero carbon emissions globally by 2050.

"A molecule of uranium has a million times more energy than a molecule of coal." He and Nathan "Mosquito Zapper" Myrhvold are backing a nuclear approach. It's called Terrapower, and it's different from a standard nuclear reactor. Instead of burning the 1% of uranium-235 found in natural uranium, this reactor burns the other 99%, called uranium-238. You can use all the leftover waste from today's reactors as fuel. "In terms of fuel this really solves the problem." He showed a photo of depleted waste uranium in steel cylinders at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Kentucky -- the waste at this plant could supply the US energy needs for 200 years (woah!), and filtering seawater for uranium could supply energy for much longer than that."

Kentucky History Excerpts; "Tales From Buffalo Creek"

This is an excerpt from a short history of Buffalo Creek in Owsley County Kentucky. Titled "Tales From Buffalo Creek" and written from personal memories by Leon Sandlin
Leon Sandlin comes from a long line of old Dean family friends. Our ancesters grew up together in that little remote area. Like every place Buffalo Creek has enormous amount of history lost for good because of the passing of generations and failure to write it down. Thanks to Leon a bit of the history of Buffalo Creek will remain. Through his memories his family and a lot of the history of mine lives on.
This excerpt tells of my great grandfather Ezekial Dean coming into Kentucky, sometime around 1870 and established his life, family and a long Dean history on Buffalo Creek in Owsley County Kentucky.

The Dean's Come to Kentucky and to Buffalo Creek in Owsley County.
--

Tales From Buffalo Creek
"..It is my intent to write about all the families that lived on Buffalo Creek during the 1940' and 50's. The Dean family has been on Buffalo(*) since sometime during the 1870's. Ezekiel was the beginning of the Dean line in this area. Ezekiel was born sometime around 1840 in Virginia. He had a sister that married Abraham Carmack. Abraham and his wife lived around the mouth of Island Creek. It is not known for sure when Ezekiel came to Kentucky. He married Kizzie Barrett, a daughter of Jesse and Polly Asher. They were married in Clay County on August 6, 1859. Ezekiel joined the Union during the Civil War. It was during the 1870's that Ezekiel's family along with some of the Carmack's came to Buffalo Creek and settled on the Rattlesnake Branch. Ezekiel and Kizzie("Coon" as she was called) had a large family. Their children were Rachel born 5/1/1861, John born 2/25/1863, Mary Jane born5/7/1865,Else Ann born 2/20/1867, James born 5/7/1869, Brice born 10/1/1871, Nancy Margaret born 4/7/1873,, Jesse(*2) born 10/10/1875, George born 10/15/1877, Daniel Boone born 9/15/1879, and Cattie born 4/15/1881.
Rachel married William Davidson they had several children. William hanged himself. All of Rachel's children left Buffalo. John married _?_ Webb. I don't know if they had children. John was killed in a fight that took place during a card game.Mary Jane married Harve Abner. They lived in Clay County and had several children. Some of them were Luch, John, Brice, James(known as "Jim Black"), Ezekial and Anna. Jim Black came to our house quite often when I was a small boy. I remember the first time I saw him. He came to our house one afternoon and I was surprised to see he was missing both hands. It was getting quite late as my mother was in the kitchen cooking supper. When it was apparent that he had come to spend the night I began to wonder how he would be able to eat his meal without hands. When supper was cooked and we were called in to eat I was surprised to see him pick up a fork between the stubs he had left and eat as well as we did. Jim Black was out in a boat throwing dynamite in the river to kill fish. He had cut a stick in half and was holding them one in each hand, one went off prematurely and the explosion set the other one off. Else Ann married John Bishop, their children were Scott and Jessee. James married Elizabeth Riley, their children were Nancy and Jimmie. Brice married 1st Ara Daniel, their children were Ester, Lucy, and Colson. Brice's 2nd wife was Mary Ellen Rice and their children were Bradley, Ezekiel, Thomas, Geneva, Woodrow and Shirley. Most of Brice's family lived around Booneville. Nancy Margaret married William Clark. Their children were Rushia, Della,Rose and Nettie. Nancy Magaret died Jan. 28, 1906. Jesse Dean married Jane Riley(*3), their children were Johny, George, Ellen, Albert, Florence, Mark, Edd(*4), Ledford, Ray, Myrtle, and Elvia. Jesse Dean died on Buffalo Creek in 1930. Most of his family left Buffalo except Edd, who lived on Buffalo Creek until around 1950. George married Martha Gay, their children wereNellie, Stella, Clay, Ida, Chaney, Hazel, Wilton, Addie, Effie, and Opal. George lived his entire life on the Rattlesnake Branch where he died 4/28/1951. Daniel Boone married Ida Neace, their children were Violet, Fannie, William, Sam, Arthur and Ruth. Daniel's family lived around Booneville. Cattie Dean married Green Burns, their children were Jimmy, Ernest, Kinard, Nancy, Levi, Frank, Dan and Steve. Green Burns died while cleaning out a well for WIlliam Clark on the Rockhouse Branch this was around 1914. Cattie died in Indiana around 1965.."
-Leon Sandlin

(*) Dean Note; I don't think any Deans have lived on Buffalo Creek for a long time now.
(*2) Dean Note2; Jesse Dean is my grandfather

Greenwald; The Almighty Lindsey Graham Must Be Appeased

Lindsey Graham and every other Republican as far as I can tell. The Obama Doctrine seems to have become the Rahm Emanuel style of "bi-partisanship" since his swearing in. Here's Glenn Greenwald:

The all-powerful Lindsey Graham must not be displeased

"..This is the same excuse that has been offered by Obama loyalists from the start for everything from continuing radical Bush/Cheney Terrorism policies to protecting Bush crimes from disclosure and accountability: we have to do this otherwise we won't have bipartisan support for our domestic agenda. Leaving aside the perverse, Mussolini-like willingness to trade away core liberties for material benefits (just as long as the trains run on time), can someone point to all of the crucial GOP support for health care reform and the rest of Obama's domestic agenda that would have been lost had Obama angered the GOP by reversing and/or investigating Bush/Cheney Terrorism policies?

It was painfully predictable from the start that the GOP would impede Obama's agenda no matter what he did, which is what made all those "post-partisan" proclamations nothing short of sad. Where is this vital GOP cooperation that would have been lost had Obama fulfilled his campaign pledges to "change" these Terrorism and civil liberties policies? It's almost as hard to find as the secret weapon Lindsey Graham possesses for single-handedly preventing the closure of Guantanamo if he's angry.."

Vaporizer | Now You're Toking! Aaah..I Mean, Talking!

Mmmm....sounds gourmet to me...:

How Rich People Smoke Pot

"The Volcano Vaporizer has become a coveted status symbol for posh pot smokers, who say it draws out the drug's aroma like "the bouquet of a wine," and their personal trainers insist on it.

As the executive director of NORML, the leading lobbying organization for pot smokers’ rights, Allen St. Pierre gets asked a lot of strange questions. But the one he’s been getting lately is, “What is that metal thing they use on Weeds?”

The answer is the
Volcano Vaporizer, a smokeless inhalation device that has recently shown up on both the Showtime series and HBO’s Bored to Death, in which a sexy stoner played by Jenny Slate lures Jason Schwartzman into her bedroom to test one out. (“Just squeeze down on that nipple and suck in the vapors,” she coaches him.) It’s even used at the renowned Chicago restaurant Alinea, albeit unconventionally, to pipe aromas of nutmeg and coffee to diners as they eat dessert."
Paul Schrodt

............................................
This is probably how a lot of the wealthy people who keep voting & lobbying to keep pot illegal are toking it these days. Oh, and Wall Street bankers!

This Just In: (Christian)God In The Classroom Is Not Just A Republican Mantra

We now present Kentucky's Christian Taliban wing of the Democratic party.

photo.

Bill would let schools teach Bible literacy

Frankfort — Three Democratic state senators are pushing a proposal to give public schools the option of teaching the Bible as an elective social studies course.

The class would "teach students knowledge of biblical content, characters, poetry and narratives that are pre requisites to understanding contemporary society and culture," said Sen. David Boswell, D- Owensboro, the primary sponsor of Senate Bill 142.

Boswell, a Catholic, said the bill is intended to teach Bible literacy as an academic course, "not as the only religion," but opponents labeled the proposal an unconstitutional "back-door approach to teaching religion."
...

I wonder what Sen. David Boswell(D, Catholic) thinks of all the priests sexually abusing those children in his church? Let him tend his priests and church and keep his(and anyone else's) religion out of the classrooms.
Note: I graduated from a Baptist high school(OBI; Oneida Baptist Institute, Oneida KY) and took the mandatory 2 years of Bible study. It certainly didn't harm me, I was a junior and then Senior at the time. I remained what I've been pretty much throughout my life, a proud Agnostic. BUT with that said, the key point in this(IMO) is; That was a PRIVATE school and these are PUBLIC schools that these Christian Senators are pushing Christian idealogy into. Now if they were to make this an "elective" study of the documents of all/other religions including the bible.
To make it short(I have jobs to look for) Mr. Kagin says it best.

"A rampant violation of the separation of church and state."
-Edwin F. Kagin, national legal director of American Atheists

Making an appearance, going go look for a job now.

We're Not Outraged, We're Just Laughing

Regarding Squeeky Sarah's crib notes on her hand for the teabagger speech(wink, wink). Conservatives seem to think we're just SO angry.
No, not really. What he said:

Who is outraged? We’re all hysterical. This is funny stuff. I think it is awesome that the lead wingnut in the country is such a dim bulb that she has to have “budget tax cuts” on her hand to remind her what she stands for. Put it this way, since this is Black History Month, this is akin to seeing “civil rights” written on MLK’s hand.

I'm Logged In World! | Kentucky Vs LSU - Videos

I'm back Blogworld. If nothing else the Internet "tubes" will know I'm still kicking.
Here's a little item. Yesterday the Kentucky Wildcats demolished LSU, at LSU. It was expected to be sure, but when you actually start rooting for the other team to make a three pointer you know it's a blowout.
No matter if you like Kentucky basketball or not. If you're just an occasional basketball fan you should have fun watching some of the things these guys can do. Freshmen Wall and Cousins in particular. Here's some highlights:

Here's Coach John Caliperi's post game interview:

Here's a video of Demarcus Cousin's interview, mostly about how he's feels handicapped by referees watching him closer than anyone else.

Thanks to Sea of Blue and John Clay.

Still alive, and STILL doing the job searches every day. Got an interview Tuesday with American Income Life Insurance. I've read some bad things about them though and they've already deceived me about the job. So I may well call and negate that one, alas..alak.

Greenwald: The Lynch Mob Mentality

Go read Glenn Greenwald:

A very long time ago, I would be baffled when I'd read about things like the Salem witch hunts. How could so many people be collectively worked up into that level of irrational frenzy, where they cheered for people's torturous death as "witches" without any real due process or meaningful evidence? But all one has to do is look at our current Terrorism debates and it's easy to see how things like that happen.

Robert Kennedy Announces Martin Luther King's Murder

Thanks to PBS for stirring this memory.
Robert Kennedy's speech in Indianapolis which defused an angry mob. The only time in history(probably) where violence was diverted and calmed with quotes of ancient Greek poetry. April 4, 1968 prior to a speech Kennedy was to give he learned of the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. This eulogy was nearly his spontaneous reaction. And it threw compassion and logic into a mob stopping it in it's tracks. Around two months later Robert Kennedy was assassinated.

Astronomy Pic of the Day | Prometheus From Cassini

The Cassini Spacecraft shot of Saturn's moon Prometheus last week.

More Here.

..Cassini got its closest look yet at Saturn's small moon Prometheus last week. Visible above in an unprocessed image from 36,000 kilometers(23,320+ miles) away, Prometheus' 100-km long surface was revealed to have an interesting system of bulges, ridges, and craters. These features, together with the moon's oblong shape and high reflectivity, are now being studied to help better understand the history of Prometheus and Saturn's rings. Prometheus is one of the few shepherd satellites known, as its gravity, along with its companion moon Pandora, confines many smaller ice chucks into Saturn's F Ring. Cassini's next major targeted flyby is of the moon Rhea on March 2.

Greenwald: Remember the illegal destruction of Iraq?

Glenn Greenwald does. Fortunately or unfortunately so do I. An Abomination and blot on my country. Unlike President Barack "Go along to get along" I'll never forget and never forgive.
War crimes and crimes against humanity(same thing?) seem to affect me that way.

Happy War Partners, Inc.:

Image

They just seem so happy for having caused the needless deaths of hundreds of thousands of souls don't they? Remember the scene in "The Shining" where blood comes POURING out of the elevators and rolling down the hallway? These guys should make their entrance on a wave like that. Of course it would be real blood of Iraqi innocents.

Remember the illegal destruction of Iraq?

British political news has been consumed for the last several weeks by a formal inquiry into the illegality and deceit behind Tony Blair's decision to join the U.S. in invading Iraq. Today, Blair himself is publicly testifying before the investigative commission and is being grilled about numerous false claims he made in the run-up to the war, not only about Iraqi weapons programs (his taxi-cab-derived "45-minutes-to-launch!!" warning) and Saddam's ties to Al Qaeda, but also about secret commitments he made to join the U.S. at a time when he and Bush were still pretending that they were undecided and awaiting the outcome of the U.N. negotiations and the inspection process...

..The British inquiry has been widely criticized for being too passive and deferential and lacking any credible threat of accountability (other than disclosure of facts). Still, one can barely even imagine George Bush and Dick Cheney being hauled before an investigative body and forced, under oath, to testify publicly about what they did as a means of determining the legality or illegality of that war. Doing that would fundamentally conflict with two leading principles in American political life: (1) our highest political leaders must never be accountable for actions they take while in power; and (2) whether something they do is "illegal" -- especially the starting of wars -- is utterly irrelevant. Instead of formally investigating whether they broke the law, we treat them like elder statesmen who deserve a life of
luxury and media reverence. Tony Blair -- who had no discernible expertise or experience in banking -- himself is showered with riches for a "part-time" job by JP Morgan and by other institutions who benefited substantially from his acts in office..

Continue.

As for Blair being "showered with riches". Did anyone really think he was being "Bush's poodle" for nothing in the run up to the Bush/US Media/British attack on Iraq. Personally I thought(and said at the time) he would be working for The Carlyle Group or Halliburton after his days in office. Oops, wrong corporate benefactor..
