WATB - BP Exec Whines About His Life

My only question right now is; Will we EVER see a few people(hint BP execs) punished over this? Subpoenas? Trials? Anything?

"We're sorry for the massive disruption it's caused their lives. There's no one who wants this over more than I do. I would like my life back."

Obama's War Plans Becoming As Predictable As Bushco's

Thanks to Atrios:

The Friedman Unit worked so well for Bush, Inc that Obama, Inc has apparently stolen it.

Six Months ago:
"The administration's plan contains "off-ramps," points starting next June at which Obama could decide to continue the flow of troops, halt the deployments and adopt a more limited strategy or "begin looking very quickly at exiting" the country, depending on political and military progress, one defense official said.
"We have to start showing progress within six months on the political side or military side or that's it," the U.S. defense official said."

Tire Tracks, Empty Planet

More from Mars. Martian Rover Opportunity's tire tracks traverse a vast Martian plain of dunes:

Last week Opportunity surpassed Viking 1 as the longest running mission on Mars, now extending well over six years. Landing in 2004 in Meridiani Planum, the robotic Opportunity has embarked on its longest and most dangerous trek yet, now aiming to reach large Endeavor Crater sometime next year.

Obama To Out-Republican the Republicans?

As a Digby reader succinctly put it, "this will be a nice F*ck you to everyone that voted for him"

The White House's boldly Republican economic plan:
Cutting Social Security and raising the age limit, a new Value Added Tax (VAT), and White House officials would cut the corporate income tax.

The 20 WORST Drinks In America

20 Worst Drinks in America 2010

"Over the past 50 years or so, we Americans have developed a severe drinking problem.

We stopped making our own iced teas and lemonades (recipe: water, lemon, sugar) and started buying them in bottles or mixes, with ingredients like "high-fructose corn syrup" and "ascorbic acid" on the labels. We stopped thinking of a soda as a treat - akin to an ice cream or a candy bar - and started seeing it as the equivalent of a glass of water, drinking two, three, four, or more a day. (The average American now drinks about a gallon of soda a week!) Then we stopped drinking water out of the tap and started demanding that it be artificially flavored and put into bottled with the words "vitamin" or "energy" stamped on their labels. And, in just the last decade or so, many of us stopped brewing our own coffee and started buying things with vaguely European names, like "mocha latte," or swapped out coffee altogether for something called "energy drinks,"..."

Mark Twain Will Finally Get His Autobiography On

Now THIS should be good. Mark Twain after a century's wait will be getting his autobiography out:

Photo

Exactly a century after rumours of his death turned out to be entirely accurate, one of Mark Twain's dying wishes is at last coming true: an extensive, outspoken and revelatory autobiography which he devoted the last decade of his life to writing is finally going to be published.

The creator of Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn and some of the most frequently misquoted catchphrases in the English language left behind 5,000 unedited pages of memoirs
when he died in 1910, together with handwritten notes saying that he did not want them to hit bookshops for at least a century.

That milestone has now been reached, and in November the University of California, Berkeley, where the manuscript is in a vault, will release the first volume of Mark Twain's autobiography. The eventual trilogy will run to half a million words, and shed new light on the quintessentially American novelist.

Rand Paul Cancels Meet The Press Appearance

Rand Paul cancels 'Meet the Press' appearance Sunday - Pleads "exhaustion"

Must be getting to hot in the proverbial kitchen. Rand's GOP advisors may have finally convinced him to lay low for a bit. Think Rove's dance partner David Gregory might invite Jack Conway on? He's my side's Kentucky Senate candidate, and had a ton more vote's than "foot-in-mouth" Rand in the primary.

Evenings Reading - James Still

"River of Earth"

"These hills are jist dirt waves, washing through eternity. My brethren, they hain't a valley so low but what hit'll rise agin. They hain't a hill standing so proud but hit'll sink to the low ground o' sorrow. Oh, my children, where air we going on this mighty river of earth, a-borning, begetting, and a-dying--the living and the dead riding the waters? Where air it sweeping us?.."

Some Election Talk, Teabaggers And Some Good Political News For A Progressive

I kinda like this;

Specter Loses, Lincoln loses(1st round) and Conway wins in Kentucky. Also far rightwing Rand Paul wins over sorta, kinda rightwing Trey Grayson in Kentucky.

Among a few of the things I disagree with is this statement:
"Kentucky marked the third time that tea party activists, a collection of disparate groups without a central political structure, have placed their stamp on Republican races."
Our dear friends the Baggers

Baggers aren't "disparate" at all. They're overwhelmingly far right versions of regular GOP'ers. Virtual creations of "Dick" Armey and our corporate "News" media. Sort of a GOP/Libertarian/crazy hybrid. Studies have shown that they get their version of news from "FOX and Friends". I've heard some scary Teabagger opinions in interviews, and Sarah Palin is their queen, 'nuff said...IMO

Then again, these are "serious journalists" and I'm just a lowly, desperately unemployed Blogger. FEH!
Have a Great Wacky day travelers..!

Notes; Kentucky Primary Day - Conway, Mongiardo, Grayson and Paul, Oh My!

I'm voting Jack Conway over Conservo-Dem Daniel Mongiardo in today's Kentucky primary. Conway is probably at best a middle-of-the-road Democrat. But I'll still give him a shot over Mister "corporate" Mongiardo. Once I see his actual day-by-day policies I could well regret it. On the other hand I've seen Lt. Governor Mongiardo's actions and haven't approved of a lot especially his stand on mountain-top-removal coal mining. Attorney General Conway's campaign has been touting the support of another corporate Dem-Toady Ben Chandler which certainly hasn't helped him in my view but that's just me. Interesting to see how it turns out.
Regarding the other side, I watched some of MSNBC's coverage this morning and I'm not sure they realize there are Democrats running in Kentucky also. Their complete focus was the Republican vs. Republican battle of Rightwing Trey Grayson vs. FAR Rightwing, Rand "son of Ron" Paul. Their bottom screen ticker was calling Trey Grayson a Moderate(are you kidding me, BWAHAHAHAHA, are there REALLY ANY moderate Repubs left in AMerica?) and calling Paul a "conservative". Chuckles Todd interviewed both giving them the air time with no mention of the Dem's KY primary battle. Now to be fair I didn't watch the whole program so somewhere along the way the Democratic campaign may have been mentioned.
Grayson has the support of the white collar Republicans including DICK Dick Cheney, Rick Santorum, Mitch "Mo'Money" McConnell, Rudy Giuliani and Hal Rogers. Moderate? Not in the least. Rand Paul's posse includes Sarah "$30,000aspeech teabagger" Palin, Jim DeMint, James "Holier-than-thou" Dobson, Steve "I'm Rich!" Forbes and Jim "Where Am I?!" Bunning. This IS gonna be interesting! That's my notes, now don't forget to vote!
I'm now going to do my daily search for that mythical beast, a decent job. What say you Conway, Mongiardo, Grayson and Paul? Think I'll find it? I'm losing hope....
BTW...if Jack Conway and Daniel Mongiardo had a son he'd be called "Jack Daniels" BAH-DA-BOOM!
Later surfers.

Another Day Means Another Holier-Than-Thou Republican Affair Comes To Light

Indiana Rep. Souder says he'll resign over affair

Wow. It's almost automatic isn't it? A rightwing Republican scolds the nation on sexual relations, sexual abstinance, etc. Just like clockwork it's revealed he couldn't keep his holier-than-thee pants on.
Here's part of a statement his office sent out(notice the shouting ALL CAPS):

"..IT HAS BEEN ALL CONSUMING FOR ME TO DO THIS JOB WELL, ESPECIALLY IN A DISTRICT WITH COSTLY, COMPETITIVE ELECTIONS EVERY TWO YEARS I DO NOT HAVE ANY SORT OF "NORMAL" LIFE - FOR FAMILY, FOR FRIENDS, FOR CHURCH, FOR COMMUNITY.TO SERVE HAS BEEN A BLESSING AND A RESPONSIBILITY GIVEN FROM GOD.I WISH I COULD HAVE BEEN A BETTER EXAMPLE. I SINNED AGAINST GOD, MY WIFE AND MY FAMILY BY HAVING A MUTUAL RELATIONSHIP WITH A PART-TIME MEMBER OF MY STAFF.."

"..IN THE POISONOUS ENVIRONMENT OF WASHINGTON DC, ANY PERSONAL FAILING IS SEIZED UPON, OFTEN TWISTED, FOR POLITICAL GAIN. I AM RESIGNING RATHER THAN TO PUT MY FAMILY THROUGH THAT PAINFUL, DRAWN-OUT PROCESS.."

Yep it's that "POISONOUS" Washington environment! Isn't an affair defined as a "mutual relationship". That's almost a cover the butt statement.
This guy is a real DICK, but(as is always the case) you have to feel sorry for his family.
Oh, and here's a little video of Godly Rep. "abstinance" being interviewed by the very "PART-TIME MEMBER" of his staff who Rep. Souder was..ah...giving the staff..

Legalize Marijuana File: US War On Drugs Has Met None Of Its Goals

US War On Drugs Has Met None Of Its Goals: AP Impact

Surprise! The "War On Drugs(users)" has wasted lives, money and time, with little positive to show for it.

"Using Freedom of Information Act requests, archival records, federal budgets and dozens of interviews with leaders and analysts, the AP tracked where that money went, and found that the United States repeatedly increased budgets for programs that did little to stop the flow of drugs. In 40 years, taxpayers spent more than:

- $20 billion to fight the drug gangs in their home countries. In Colombia, for example, the United States spent more than $6 billion, while coca cultivation increased and trafficking moved to Mexico - and the violence along with it.

- $33 billion in marketing "Just Say No"-style messages to America's youth and other prevention programs. High school students report the same rates of illegal drug use as they did in 1970, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says drug overdoses have "risen steadily" since the early 1970s to more than 20,000 last year.

- $49 billion for law enforcement along America's borders to cut off the flow of illegal drugs. This year, 25 million Americans will snort, swallow, inject and smoke illicit drugs, about 10 million more than in 1970, with the bulk of those drugs imported from Mexico.

- $121 billion to arrest more than 37 million nonviolent drug offenders, about 10 million of them for possession of marijuana. Studies show that jail time tends to increase drug abuse.

- $450 billion to lock those people up in federal prisons alone. Last year, half of all federal prisoners in the U.S. were serving sentences for drug offenses."

Today's Headlines I'd Like To Correct

Lexington Herald-Leader headline this morning regarding poll results on the Tea party movement:

Kentucky Poll: Many Democrats undecided on Tea Party movement

Correct Headline:
Kentucky Poll: Teabagger Movement Off-Shoot of Republican Party:
(Will likely disappear as soon as Republicans are back in power)

The article seems shocked...SHOCKED, that Democrats not only don't support the Teabaggers all that much, but that Democrats don't even know quite what to make of the far right; "Keep your dang guv'ment hands off my Social Security/SSI" teabaggers.
When will someone sit our "News" media down(Jack Brammer in this instance) and explain to them why Republicans LOVE the 'baggers!?? It's right there in front of their faces.
Answer; Teabaggers are Republicans. Hellooo? Specifically far right, old and white, FOX News lovin', conservative toady,Republicans. A corporate funded baby spawned and supported by(aptly named) corporate machine Dick Armey.
As to the Democrats not knowing what to make of 'Baggers, that(IMHO) is just an another example of NEWS that the "news" media has completely bungled, intentionally or not. Another one of those distractions they love to completely babble about but ignore the gritty details. A few more? The war on(unapproved) drugs, The Health care bill, Iraq, George W. Bush, etc, etc.
And yes, I understand that this is Kentucky after all where Rand(Sarah Palin Loves Him!) Paul will likely be the Republican senate nominee.

Alas..Alack...For want of "News"..

Gotta go; Going to the country this evening for overnight. Unemployed again and STILL looking for a good job. Have a great weekend passerbys...

Oil Catastrophe, And The Obama And Leno Show

Hard to watch or even think about the catastrophe unfolding in the gulf. I imagine BP's response to this disaster is similar to Dubya's Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice's comment about the 9/11 attacks; "No one could have predicted planes being flown into buildings"?
BP; "No one could have predicted an oil rig exploding and breaking off from the well"?
...Bastards!
Maybe the Fed can hire a few hundred thousand of we "unemployeds" at a decent wage and send us down to try and help? Hmmm? Doubtful? I think so to.
They seem to be to busy fiddling time away...this is a disaster on so many levels though it's frightening.

Well, try and think about something else.
On a bit brighter note the White House Correspondent's Dinner was last night. Here's a bit of the event featuring the President and Jay Leno(who I don't have a high funnyman opinion of).
The word is that the President "slayed" 'em, and Jay bombed.
You be the judge:
