House GOP Holds 30 Times More Votes On Repealing Obamacare Than On Creating Jobs

GOP Ransom the Economy For Medicare

Apparently the Adsense ads consider me Republican. WRONG.
Do Republicans get Democratic ads on their blogs?
Here is a good description of what the GOP is up to:

Some Election Talk, Teabaggers And Some Good Political News For A Progressive

I kinda like this;

Specter Loses, Lincoln loses(1st round) and Conway wins in Kentucky. Also far rightwing Rand Paul wins over sorta, kinda rightwing Trey Grayson in Kentucky.

Among a few of the things I disagree with is this statement:
"Kentucky marked the third time that tea party activists, a collection of disparate groups without a central political structure, have placed their stamp on Republican races."
Our dear friends the Baggers

Baggers aren't "disparate" at all. They're overwhelmingly far right versions of regular GOP'ers. Virtual creations of "Dick" Armey and our corporate "News" media. Sort of a GOP/Libertarian/crazy hybrid. Studies have shown that they get their version of news from "FOX and Friends". I've heard some scary Teabagger opinions in interviews, and Sarah Palin is their queen, 'nuff said...IMO

Then again, these are "serious journalists" and I'm just a lowly, desperately unemployed Blogger. FEH!
Have a Great Wacky day travelers..!

Howard Dean, Harsh Words For The GOP Deadenders

I caught this interview with Howard Dean on Olbermann last night and wanted to throw it up when I had the chance. Chores done, check - Some daily resumes uploaded, check - Dreams of a good job still ongoing, check - Booyah, here it tis.

Note: Unlike Doctor Dean I wouldn't write of that "irrevelent" GOP yet. Obama and the Dems STILL damn well determined to be "bi-partisan". The GOP still has their own cable "News", a wingnut stranglehold on radio, and "FAUX" News still has a LOT of watchers(just look at the townhall shouters). We CAN dream though can't we Doctor?

Another reason I'm still a political junkie. Can't wait to see how it plays out.

Republican Hypocrite #4 Zillion | Sen. John Ensign

Well, well it seems yet another Republican hypocrite raises a well coiffed head:

John Ensign: GOP Senator Admits Affair With a married Ex-Campaign Staffer

Let's see, here's a few Ensign comments about President Bill Clinton's short lived tryst with Monica Lewinsky:
"an embarrassing moment for the country."
"I think we have to feel very sad for the American people and Hillary and Chelsea"

A "Weak Tea" Harry Reid spokesman had this to say:
"Sen. Reid's thoughts are with Sen. Ensign and his family at this time."

Oh, and Ensign is one of "The Promise Keepers" a men's Christianic group.

Tennessee GOP Gets Played

This is so delicious I had to post it. Not only did the Kentucky Wildcats embarrass the Volunteers in their own arena last night but the Tennessee GOP got played by their Democratic colleagues and one of their Republican members. Here's the story from John Cole, with video following, delicious!

--
"The Republicans—who had just finally won control of the State House for the first time in 40+ years – were suppose to elect their Speaker of the House today. And failed!

..In the last election, a bunch of belligerent right-wing radicals tried to bully Rep. Williams (a moderate) into taking far-right stands—going so far as to threaten boycotts on his family business, etc.

Well, Rep. Williams had had enough of bullies and blowhards destroying the Republican Party from within. And the Democrats knew it. So the Democrats approached Rep. Williams about being the new House Speaker..

Rep. Williams said, “yes,” and history was made, just minutes ago.

..Anaxamander has the details in his/her diary. The Tennessee State House has 50 Republicans and 49 Democrats. Well, Rep. Kent Williams (R-TN) got the support of all 49 Democrats plus his own vote to put himself in the Speaker’s chair.."
--
The official Republican nominee, Jason Mumpower (a wingnut from Bristol in Sullivan County) was left speechless, clutching the family bible that he had brought in preparation for taking the Speaker’s oath of office.

"Harry Reid should be forced to watch these videos every morning, every lunch break, and before he goes to bed, and they should be streamed at all times in his office."

GOP Police State Minneapolis?

Bill of Rights? Shmill of Rights... Welcome to GOP Minneapolis
"..Targeting people with machine-gun-carrying SWAT teams and mass raids in their homes, who are suspected of nothing more than planning dissident political protests at a political convention and who have engaged in no illegal activity whatsoever, is about as redolent of the worst tactics of a police state as can be imagined.."

Jane Hamsher of firedoglake.com and Glenn Greenwald of Salon.com interview peace protesters whose homes were raided by Ramsey County Police on August 30, 2008.

More.

GOP can have the South

A good article on the future of the Democrats and Republicans in American politics by Harold Meyerson .

--
The GOP's Southern Exposure
By Harold Meyerson

You've seen the numbers and understand that America is growing steadily less white. You try to push your party, the Grand Old Party, ahead of this curve by taking a tolerant stance on immigration and making common cause with some black churches. Then you go and blow it all in a desperate attempt to turn out your base by demonizing immigrants and running racist ads against Harold Ford. On Election Day, black support for Democrats remains high; Hispanic support for Democrats surges. So what do you do next?
What else? Elect Trent Lott your deputy leader in the Senate. Sure locks in the support of any stray voters who went for Strom in '48.

In case you haven't noticed, a fundamental axiom of modern American politics has been altered in recent weeks. For four decades, it's been the Democrats who've had a Southern problem. Couldn't get any votes for their presidential candidates there; couldn't elect any senators, then any House members, then any dogcatchers. They still can't, but the Southern problem, it turns out, is really the Republicans'. They've become too Southern -- too suffused with the knee-jerk militaristic, anti-scientific, dogmatically religious, and culturally, sexually and racially phobic attitudes of Dixie -- to win friends and influence elections outside the South. Worse yet, they became more Southern still on Election Day last month, when the Democrats decimated the GOP in the North and West. Twenty-seven of the Democrats' 30 House pickups came outside the South.

The Democrats won control of five state legislatures, all outside the South, and took more than 300 state legislative seats away from Republicans, 93 percent of them outside the South. As for the new Senate Republican caucus that chose Mississippi's Lott over Tennessee's Lamar Alexander to be deputy to Kentucky's Mitch McConnell, 17 of its 49 members come from the Confederacy proper, with another three from the old border states of Kentucky and Missouri, and two more from Oklahoma, which is Southern but with more dust. In all, 45 percent of Republican senators come from the Greater South.

More problematic, so does most of the Republican message. Following the gospel according to Rove (fear not swing voters but pander to and mobilize thy base), George W. Bush and the Republican Congress, together or separately, had already blocked stem cell research, disparaged nonmilitary statecraft, exalted executive wartime power over constitutional niceties, campaigned repeatedly against gay rights, thrown public money at conservative churches and investigated the tax status of liberal ones. In the process, they alienated not just moderates but Western-state libertarians.

That ol' GOP Do-Nothing Congress"

I'm SO glad these losers lost the majority. Will the Dems be worse? How could they, "two days a week at a salary of $165,000"
--

Operating most weeks on a Tuesday-through-Thursday schedule, Congress is poised to finish this year with just 100 working days under its belt — the fewest since 1948, when then-President Harry Truman famously blasted what he
called a "do-nothing Congress."

The year is likely to end with no final action on a number of major issues, including Social Security and immigration reform and tighter ethics standards for lawmakers. . . . This year, Congress will probably end up meeting for about 100 days — an average of about two days a week in return for a salary of $165,000.
